There may be a faint neoprene scent when you first receive your mat which will fade in a day or two. This is due to the non-slip rubber material backing. 

Washing instructions: Hand wash or machine wash on delicate with warm water and detergent. Rinse and hang to air dry (do not dry in dryer).
